Saint Estephe Chateau Phelan Segur 2011: Another sleeper of the vintage, this excellent effort from the Gardinier family reveals a dense ruby/purple colour along with a sweet perfume of mulberries, black cherries and black currants. An absence of herbaceousness gives the wine an attractive plump, fruitdriven mouthfeel with earth, light tannin and structure. Alc 13% Grapes: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot
Note: 2011 is a difficult vintage. Average points: 85. Best reds are coming from Pomerol and St. Emilion. It’s a fresh early drinking vintage. More in wine beyond
